Starting February 1, new 'Know Your Vehicle' (KYV) rules will streamline FASTag linking by shifting validation responsibility from owners to issuing banks. Previously, owners submitted vehicle details for validation. Now, FASTag activation will require prior verification against the government's VAHAN database. If VAHAN lacks data, banks must validate using the Registration Certificate. For existing FASTags, KYV becomes a complaint-driven process, not routine. These changes aim to enhance the FASTag system's transparency and reduce grievances, with over 8 crore FASTags currently in use.
