The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) is proposing a shift from the traditional fixed-base Laspeyres framework to a chain-based method for compiling the Index of Industrial Production (IIP). This change, part of a base-revision exercise, aims to improve accuracy by reflecting current production structures, as fixed weights become less relevant with evolving industries. MoSPI has released a discussion paper and invited comments from stakeholders by January 25, 2026, to gather feedback on the proposed methodology.
