The Tea Association of India (TAI) has raised concerns regarding government plans to grant land pattas to tea garden workers in Assam and West Bengal. TAI president Sandeep Singhania highlighted potential financial and legal risks, as much of the land is pledged to banks. He also pointed out that managements would still be responsible for providing worker housing and amenities under existing labor laws, even after land transfer, and called for fair compensation for company assets. Singhania also noted a significant decline in average tea prices.
