A significant lithium discovery has been confirmed beneath a former gas field in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, with an estimated 43 million tonnes of lithium carbonate equivalent. This find, located in the Altmark basin, could bolster Europe's battery supply chain and represents a shift from fossil fuels to strategic minerals. The project plans to utilize direct lithium extraction (DLE) technology, potentially leveraging existing infrastructure from previous gas operations.
