
Beverage makers like Coca-Cola and Kingfisher are increasing imports of aluminum cans from West Asia and Sri Lanka due to delays in local supply and surging demand. The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification process for can manufacturing, implemented last April, is reportedly prolonged and includes overseas plant inspections, causing bottlenecks. The brewing industry has requested a one-year postponement of these certification requirements or exemptions for pending applications to meet anticipated summer demand.
