The owners of the sunken vessel MSC Elsa III have deposited a security amount of Rs 1,227.62 crore in the Kerala High Court for the release of its sister vessel, MSC Akiteta II. This deposit, made in December, led to the sister vessel's release. The Kerala government had initially claimed Rs 9,531 crore in damages due to environmental pollution and economic losses to fishermen following the MSC Elsa III's sinking in May last year. The court reduced the security amount but allowed the state to seek an increase later.
