
Indian stock exchanges BSE and NSE will be closed on January 15, 2026, for trading due to municipal corporation elections in Maharashtra. This decision, initially a settlement holiday, was revised to a full trading holiday. The Maharashtra government declared January 15 a public holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act to facilitate voting in 29 municipal corporations, including Mumbai. Trading will resume on January 16, with vote counting scheduled for the same day.
