India dropped to third place among buyers of Russian fossil fuels in December 2025, importing 2.3 billion euros worth of hydrocarbons, down from 3.3 billion in November. This decline was attributed to sharp reductions in crude oil imports by Reliance Industries and state-owned refiners, partly in response to US sanctions. Turkiye moved to second place, while China remained the top buyer. Crude oil constituted the majority of India's purchases, with coal and oil products making up the remainder.
