India's Tea Board is implementing a new two-step import process to ensure imported teas meet food safety standards and protect the domestic industry. This involves advance permits, mandatory lab testing of samples from consignments, and warehouse holds until results are confirmed. The move aims to prevent low-quality teas from Nepal and Kenya from entering the Indian market, safeguarding local growers and consumers, and preserving India's brand reputation for re-exported teas.
