India's Ambassador to ASEAN, Srinivas Gotru, announced that the ASEAN-India trade pact (AITIGA) is undergoing a comprehensive review to modernize it and make it more responsive to current economic realities. The goal is to enhance market access and facilitate trade for both India and ASEAN nations. Trade between India and ASEAN reached approximately USD 123 billion in 2024-25, with Indian foreign investment in the region nearing USD 30 billion over two decades. The diplomat also highlighted the proposed Digital Economic Framework Agreement (DEFA) and urged Indian businesses to consider ASEAN as a long-term strategy and a gateway to global value chains.
