Taiwan and the United States have reached a "general consensus" on a trade deal after months of negotiations. The agreement aims for reciprocal tariff reductions and preferential treatment for semiconductors under Section 232. The deal follows US tariffs imposed on Taiwanese exports earlier this year. Taiwan has pledged increased investment and defense spending in the US, while its largest chipmaker, TSMC, is expected to commit to further semiconductor facility investments in Arizona. Both sides are discussing a final meeting schedule for an official announcement.
