Chandigarh's administration has proposed amendments to the Capital of Punjab (Development and Regulation) Act to the Ministry of Home Affairs. This aims to empower the city to rationalize penalties for over 5,000 pending building violation cases, primarily involving industrial and commercial properties. Industrialists and traders have long argued that current penalties are disproportionately harsh, sometimes equaling property market value. The proposed changes also address outdated Floor Area Ratio (FAR) regulations.
