The Tea Board will implement 100% quality testing for imported tea within 15-20 days to prevent the entry of cheap, inferior varieties, according to Deputy Chairman C. Murugan. This measure aims to protect the domestic industry, which has complained about imports from countries like Nepal and Vietnam harming businesses, particularly Darjeeling tea. The Board will also facilitate generic promotion of Indian tea abroad and has earmarked ₹1,500 crore for tea development over five years.
