
India's national highway network has expanded significantly, reaching 146,560 km, largely due to the Bharatmala Pariyojana. For the 2025-26 budget, the government plans a Rs 2.87 lakh crore allocation for the Road Transport and Highways Ministry, prioritizing access-controlled highways. Future development will leverage a Rs 8.3 lakh crore public-private partnership pipeline and a new public InvIT, Raajmarg InvIT, to fund ongoing projects and mobilize capital for new infrastructure.
