India's telecom industry, represented by COAI, has urged the government to reduce regulatory and tax burdens in the upcoming Union Budget 2026-27. Key demands include cutting the license fee from 3% to 0.5-1% of Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR) to cover administrative costs and pausing contributions to the Digital Bharat Nidhi. The industry also seeks a reduction in GST on spectrum and regulatory payments from 18% to 5% to ease financial stress and facilitate network investments for 'Viksit Bharat' goals.
