India's rice exports surged by 19.4% in the past year, reaching near record levels after the government lifted all export restrictions. This increase, totaling 21.55 million metric tons, has made Indian shipments more competitive, impacting global prices and curbing exports from rivals like Thailand and Vietnam. Non-basmati rice exports saw a significant jump, while basmati exports also reached a new record. The improved supply is attributed to record production and the removal of curbs imposed in 2022 and 2023.
