Tomato prices have surged at Madanapalle market, Asia's largest, with Grade-I tomatoes reaching ₹42/kg and Grade-II at ₹32/kg due to a severe supply crunch. Arrivals have plummeted to 70 tonnes daily from an average of 800 tonnes, attributed to weather-related crop stress, delayed harvests, and increased demand from households and neighboring states. Traders anticipate prices will remain high until improved arrivals from fresh harvests are seen in the coming weeks.
