The Karnataka government has launched a Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) for maize farmers for the 2025-26 kharif season to address distress sales due to falling market prices. A Market Intervention Price (MIP) of up to Rs 2,150 per quintal has been set. The scheme aims to compensate farmers for price shortfalls below this benchmark, with payments capped at 50 quintals per farmer. This initiative follows a record maize harvest, with prices between Rs 1,600-2,000 per quintal reportedly forcing sales under pressure.
