ONGC is launching its first full-scale Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) pilot project at Gujarat's Gandhar oilfield. The initiative involves injecting approximately 100 tonnes of captured carbon dioxide daily into depleted wells to prevent its release into the atmosphere. This project aims to support India's decarbonisation goals, including net-zero emissions by 2070, and explores using CO2 for enhanced oil recovery. The pilot will utilize CO2 sourced from nearby industrial areas and ONGC's own facilities.
