Police in Telangana's Hanumakonda district have registered a case against nine individuals, including two village sarpanches, for allegedly killing approximately 300 stray dogs between January 6-8. Animal welfare activists filed a complaint alleging the dogs were killed using poisonous injections and their carcasses dumped. Village elders reportedly cited public demand and the stray dog population becoming a nuisance as reasons for the action. The FIR is filed under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, with investigations ongoing. Activists advocate for humane population control methods like sterilization.
