In Assam's Karbi Anglong district, police have arrested 18 individuals, including four women, for the alleged murder of a couple suspected of practicing witchcraft. The victims, Gardi and Mira Beruwa, were reportedly killed and their bodies burnt in front of their vandalized home on December 30. Authorities are conducting a scientific investigation and have invoked the Assam Witch Hunting Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police officials condemned the act, emphasizing that such superstition-driven violence has no place in modern society and promising justice.
