The Kerala High Court ordered the State government to pay ₹10 lakh compensation to an NRI, V.K. Thajudeen, and ₹1 lakh each to his wife and three children. Thajudeen was falsely accused of chain snatching in July 2018, leading to his 54-day imprisonment. The court deemed the arrest by Chakkarakkal police irresponsible and suggested recovering the amount from the arresting officers. Thajudeen also faced job loss and further imprisonment in Qatar.
