
Four staff members of a Ganesh Mandal in Kolhapur have been sentenced to one year in jail for violating noise pollution rules during the 2016 Ganeshotsav celebrations. The conviction by Judicial Magistrate First Class Pankaj Rajput followed a case filed by the police for exceeding permissible sound levels with a DJ system during the immersion procession. The prosecution presented evidence including sound measurements and witness testimonies. The convicted individuals have the option to pay a fine or face additional imprisonment, and can seek bail from a higher court.
