
Aldrich Ames, a former CIA counterintelligence officer notorious for selling U.S. secrets to the Soviet Union and Russia, has died in a Maryland prison at age 84. During his 31-year CIA career, Ames compromised dozens of agents and sensitive operations, leading to the deaths of Western operatives. He admitted to receiving $2.5 million for secrets from 1985 until his 1994 arrest, pleading guilty to espionage and receiving a life sentence without parole.
