Indore authorities are cracking down on the use of banned Chinese kite string (manjha) ahead of Makar Sankranti due to risks to humans and birds. Collector Shivam Verma has warned of strict legal action, including imprisonment and fines, for violators under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police have registered 20 cases and arrested 25 individuals in 24 hours for selling or using the dangerous string. The Madhya Pradesh High Court has also taken suo motu notice of the issue.
