A court in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, has sentenced Nawaz Sharif and his father, Banne Khan, to life imprisonment for the 2020 dowry death of Mahjabeen, Sharif's wife. The conviction follows a complaint by Mahjabeen's father, who alleged she was harassed for additional dowry after her marriage in 2017. The prosecution stated Mahjabeen was strangled to death on September 26, 2020, after repeated assaults over dowry demands. A fine of Rs 19,000 was also imposed on each convict.
