Manipur police and Assam Rifles apprehended three individuals, including a woman, near Tengnoupal on January 11, 2026, for alleged drug smuggling. The operation, based on intelligence, led to the seizure of approximately 5.89 kg of WY tablets, valued at around Rs 5 crore. The arrested individuals, identified as James Baite, Hatneikim Baite, and David T. Mate, were traveling in a Mahindra Bolero. The seized tablets are commonly known as 'yaba'. The accused have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Amendment) Act, 2023.
