Kerala's State Curriculum Steering Committee has approved a draft report proposing lighter school bags and classrooms without 'backbenchers' for students. The initiative, spearheaded by General Education Minister V Sivankutty, aims to enhance children's physical and mental well-being and foster a more democratic learning environment. The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) prepared the report, which will now undergo public consultation until January 20. Proposed changes include reducing bag weight, potentially through smaller bags and carrying only essentials, and altering classroom seating to ensure equal attention for all students. Implementation is planned for the next academic year.
