
The Ministry of Education has launched an awareness drive for the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) in Uttar Pradesh and North-Eastern states. This scheme aims to support economically weaker section students from Class 9 onwards with Rs 12,000 annually to reduce dropouts and promote educational equity. Eligibility requires parental income below Rs 3.5 lakh and at least 55% marks in Class 7, with selection based on state-level examinations. The scheme, approved for continuation until FY 2025-26, has a total allocation of Rs 1,827 crore.
