The National Film Archive of India (NFAI) has acquired the 1954 Tamil classic 'Ratha Kanneer' for preservation and restoration. Donated by FTII's Aparna Subramaniam, the film's eight 35mm reels are crucial as no other archive holds original negatives. NFAI's Managing Director emphasized the film's importance and appealed for contributions to archival efforts. Directed by Krishnan Panju and written by Thiruvarur Thangarasu, 'Ratha Kanneer' is noted for its progressive themes addressing caste discrimination, widow remarriage, and social stigmas, alongside sharp dialogues.
