Tiruchi district has begun its eighth round of vaccination against foot and mouth disease (FMD), aiming to inoculate an estimated 3.11 lakh cattle. The drive, running from January 3 to January 29, involves special veterinary teams conducting vaccinations at village camps. The viral disease, known to affect lactation and cause symptoms like ulcers and difficulty walking, had previously concerned farmers. Officials are addressing misconceptions that the vaccine reduces milk yield or causes miscarriage, urging all farmers to participate.
