North India, including Delhi and its surrounding regions like Gurugram, Punjab, and Haryana, is experiencing a severe cold wave with temperatures dropping significantly. Delhi recorded its coldest January morning in three years, with minimum temperatures around 3 degrees Celsius. Gurugram saw temperatures as low as 0.6 degrees Celsius, with reports of frost. Experts attribute the extreme chill to the lack of western disturbances and cold winds from the Himalayas, leading to conditions colder than some hill stations. Dense fog is also prevalent, reducing visibility.
