A recent study analyzing 37 trials involving over 9,000 participants found that individuals stopping weight-loss medications like semaglutide and tirzepatide regain weight rapidly, returning to pre-treatment levels within approximately 1.7 years. Health benefits, including improved cardiovascular markers, also reversed. The study suggests that weight rebound is faster with these drugs compared to behavioral weight management programs, which promote slower regain through sustained lifestyle changes. Researchers noted that while newer drugs led to faster monthly weight regain, the overall time to return to baseline weight was similar due to greater initial weight loss.
