
Water has been released from Uppar Dam in Tiruppur district to irrigate 6,060 acres across Dharapuram and Kundadam blocks. The release, initiated by Ministers M.P. Saminathan and N. Kayalvizhi Selvaraj, will provide 173 mcft of water over 20 days until January 23. This aims to support agriculture and livestock, with water flowing into both left and right canals. The dam's current water level is 13.60 feet, with a storage of 222.75 mcft, following renovation work in 2018-19.
