State Election Commissioner Dinesh Waghmare addressed concerns regarding 68 Mahayuti candidates declared unopposed in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, a situation that has occurred previously but with a higher number this time. Waghmare stated that elections are conducted according to existing laws, allowing for unopposed declarations when only one candidate remains. He also noted that if undue pressure, monetary inducement, or muscle power is proven in these withdrawals, elections can be cancelled and fresh polls ordered. The SEC is investigating alleged violations of the model code of conduct by Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar.
