West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has written to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, urging him to halt the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state. She cited alleged irregularities, procedural violations, administrative lapses, and a lack of proper planning, training, and clear instructions, with some directives reportedly issued via WhatsApp. Banerjee warned that the current process, described as "unplanned, arbitrary, and ad hoc," could lead to "mass disenfranchisement" and "irreparable damage" to democracy. She called for immediate corrective measures or a suspension of the exercise.
