The Odisha government has approved a five-year integrated plan to restore and protect Chilika Lake, Asia's largest brackish water lagoon. The plan includes excavating the lake's mouth, dredging feeder channels, and removing silt to improve water flow and salinity. It also aims to strengthen fisheries with new landing centers and develop infrastructure for biodiversity and research. Additionally, a separate plan for tourism development, including festivals and an interpretation center, is being prepared.
