Lawyers of the Gauhati High Court Bar Association (GHCBA) are protesting the proposed relocation of the court from its current Uzanbazar campus to Rangmahal in North Guwahati. Over 1,300 lawyers oppose the move, citing lack of consultation and disruption to established infrastructure and access to justice. They have organized hunger strikes and plan further demonstrations. The Assam government, however, states the relocation is necessary and questions the motives of the opposition, suggesting political reasons and dismissing consultation as non-mandatory.
