The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has identified 424 locations spanning approximately 1,750 km on national highways with poor or no mobile connectivity. Citing impacts on safety, emergency response, and public services, NHAI has urged the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to direct telecom providers to address these gaps, particularly in remote and greenfield sections. NHAI also requested TRAI to mandate SMS alerts for accident-prone zones.
