Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari stated that the BJP could win 220 seats in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections if Hindu consolidation is optimal, citing trends in Malda Uttar and Nandigram. He noted that in Malda Uttar, 85% of Hindu voters supported the BJP in the recent Lok Sabha elections. This prediction exceeds Union Home Minister Amit Shah's projection of a two-thirds majority, which translates to around 200 seats. Adhikari highlighted the BJP's performance in Nandigram, where Hindu voters constituted 65% in 2021 and 72% in 2024.
