Veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Union Minister Kabindra Purkayastha has passed away at the age of 94 or 95 due to age-related ailments. Purkayastha, who was instrumental in establishing the BJP in Assam and the Northeast, served as a Union Minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government and was a three-time Lok Sabha MP from Silchar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma paid tribute, remembering his contributions to Assam's progress and his role in strengthening the party.
