Union Home Minister Amit Shah has declared Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) a serious threat to society and humanity, likening it to a 'silent disaster'. Speaking at the foundation stone laying of a BSL-4 Bio-Containment Facility in Gandhinagar, Shah emphasized the need for a clear roadmap, timely treatment, infection prevention, and widespread public awareness to combat AMR. He highlighted that AMR occurs when microbes no longer respond to medicines, making infections difficult to treat and increasing risks of spread, severe illness, and death. Shah also noted the growth of India's bio-economy.
