The US military seized a Russian-flagged oil tanker, the Marinera (formerly Bella 1), in the North Atlantic for alleged Venezuela sanctions violations. The vessel had a multinational crew of 28, including three Indian nationals, whose details India is currently ascertaining. Russia condemned the seizure as illegal and a violation of international maritime law, rejecting US sanctions as justification and warning of escalating tensions. Moscow also called for humane treatment of the crew.
