Venezuela announced the release of 116 prisoners described as being held for disrupting order, following the capture of Nicolas Maduro by the U.S. Human rights groups and opposition figures, however, cite lower figures for those freed, estimating between 800 to 1,200 political prisoners remain. Opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, who is seeking broader releases, has engaged with international figures including Pope Leo XIV and is expected to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump. Negotiations between Venezuela's interim president and Washington are ongoing.
