Congress MP Randeep Singh Surjewala has alleged that rampant illegal mining along the Yamuna river in Haryana is increasing flood risks and causing distress to local residents. He stated that unchecked mining has damaged the riverbed, altered the Yamuna's course, and led to bank erosion, threatening nearby villages. Surjewala also claimed these activities result in losses to the state exchequer and severe damage to agricultural land due to erosion and sand deposition.
