
A report by India Hate Lab indicates that 88% of 1,318 documented hate speech incidents targeting religious minorities in India in 2025 occurred in BJP-ruled states. The study, using the UN definition of hate speech, found a 97% increase in such events since 2023, primarily targeting Muslims and Christians. Incidents at rallies, processions, and gatherings rose, with Muslims explicitly targeted in most cases. Anti-Christian incidents also saw a significant increase.
