Members of the Gauhati High Court Bar Association (GHCBA) have begun a three-day hunger strike to protest the government's plan to relocate the high court complex to Amingaon in North Guwahati. The association opposes the move, citing accessibility concerns and a referendum where members voted against the relocation. The GHCBA will also abstain from the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the new complex, scheduled for January 11, which Chief Justice of India Surya Kant is expected to attend. The government plans a new judicial township on over 42 acres, with the first phase costing Rs 479 crore.
