
Maharashtra's opposition parties may be unable to appoint a chief whip with state-funded facilities due to a new government resolution requiring parties to hold at least 10% of the 288-member assembly's strength. None of the opposition parties currently meet this threshold. This comes as the demand for appointing a Leader of Opposition also remains unresolved. While ruling coalition parties are exempt from this 10% rule for their whips, opposition parties face this new eligibility criterion.
