The Congress party has asked the president and vice president of the Mattathur grama panchayat in Thrissur to resign following an incident where eight Congress ward members allegedly aligned with the BJP to prevent the LDF from gaining power. While the vice president has agreed to step down, the president, who won as an independent, has not yet decided. Congress leader Roji M. John stated the party will not ally with the BJP, attributing the outcome to BJP members supporting their candidates to oust the CPI(M).
