The Supreme Court has deferred by two weeks the hearing on Jagtar Singh Hawara's plea to transfer from Delhi's Tihar Jail to a Punjab prison. Hawara, convicted in the 1995 assassination of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, argues he is a native of Punjab and has no pending cases in Delhi. The court issued notices to the Centre and state governments last year. The adjournment occurred because Solicitor General Tushar Mehta was unavailable.
